ALL THE COLORS OF THE Rainbow!

Fun & FUNKY!

I’m always happy to create fun looks with edgy cuts and funky colors.  Annie Bacon’s hairstyle is a recent favorite.  She is one of those clients that can’t be given straight-forward hair.  When I saw her recently for a color refresh, she said, “I have concluded that the mullet is simply the best haircut for me at this time in my life.”

The cut is inspired by the South African band Die Antwoord lead singer/rapper Yolandi Visser.  The color was inspired by a recent Glamour spread about rainbow colored hair.

MISHI's 2014 Prediction

Hello Gorgeous!

As we enter a new year, I have been thinking about trends, forecasting, and what's to come in 2014.

My biggest hair prediction is that this is the year for brunettes going blonde.

Thanks to hair icon and superstar Kim Kardashian everybody is thinking, "Hmmm... should I do it?"  Many of them must be saying yes, because I have noticed an influx of new and old clients asking for the Kim Kardashian look!

I think most people have come around to liking her hair more and more.  Recently I have found that I can't help but like her, and this is mainly because I love her hair! I love recreating this look on my clientele.

If you are thinking about going blonde and want to do a Kim look, ombre is your best bet.  With ombre, 80-100% of your hair is highlighted, so that each strand transitions to blonde on the bottom.  That kind of coverage takes a decent amount of time!

Because of the extensive highlights, your hair will need toned and conditioned—in other words you'll need "the works". This will balance out any tones that've gone too warm, and really replace some of the moisture lost in the highlighting process.

Keep in mind that this dramatic ombre look can take up to three times to process to get the amount of lightness you are going for. We want to take things slow and gentle to keep your hair as healthy as possible. It's worth it!

We will agree on a treatment plan from the beginning so you know exactly what we're getting into! We'll work in toner/gloss, deep conditioning, and an update to your haircare regime to keep things supple, making sure you know exactly how to invest in your hair's health!

Life is too short to not have the hair of your dreams, so call me or book your appointment online today! Here's to great hair in 2014!

xo,
Mishi

Sexy Silver Strands

WOULD YOU GO GRAY?

A new year always brings new hair trends, and Spring 2014 is already looking bright! Shiny, silvery gray strands standing out as a major trend! We've been super inspired by what I've been seeing so far!

It's a tough look to get just right, but done well it's a truly unique and gorgeous look. The perfect shade for your skin tone brings a playful, irreverent vibe that's so much more hip than your basic bright white blond. Needless to say, I've been really looking forward to working on some gray hair myself, and was stoked when I got to create this gorgeous gray!

Are you ready to take the plunge? Book it!

HAIR MOVIE NIGHT: Barbarella!

ARE YOU READY FOR BARBARELLA?

The 60's were a very special time for hair.  We keep returning to it in our Hair Movie Night series because there is an infinite supply of inspiration to draw from. And what hairdresser can deny their love for the big, glamorous, foxy hair in Barbarella?

I love this film because it's so outrageous and provocative, without being overly sexual. Barbarella might be a temptress, but she also maintains her doe-eyed innocence!

For this shoot, we used our brand new Halo Couture pieces to give our model's hair that Victoria Secret effect.  I originally set her hair in hot rollers, but went back over it with a curling iron to spruce up the waves a bit more.

A while back, my wig friend Roselie showed me how to backcomb a curl in the crown, then roll, and bobby pin it to the scalp.  This technique is what helps keep that bouffant voluminous! (Though the San Francisco wind immediately started to deconstruct my teasing effort!)

For color, I applied a gold and chestnut balayage highlight six weeks before the shoot. The day of the photo shoot, we gave her a fresh trim and did a L’Oreal Dia Light 9.03 toner to revive the shine and sparkle.

MORPHIC Mugshot: J's Foxy Locks

Long, straight locks get new highlights!

I often get clients who said they found me specifically looking for a stylist who knows how to work with Asian hair. At this point, I’m so used to doing it, I don’t even hesitate!

I know that Asian hair is going to pull red when the color is lifted out. It also takes a while to lift that super dark hair! If you have Asian hair and want a dramatic ombre, it's probably going to take two services to achieve the look you want.

This Morphic beauty (we'll call her J) was ready to change it up and go a little blonder!  It's the second round of balayage highlights I've done for her, and this time we added layers to the all-one-length hair J has had for a couple of years.

I love J's glamrock foxy locks! The blonder balayage highlights turned out so well.

Are you ready to lighten your super-dark hair yet?
